Developmental Editing
The most substantial level of editing where structure, plot, and intent are examined.
The lightest level of editing where spelling, grammar, and punctation are corrected. Edits also include suggestions to improve clarity.
Copyediting
The final pass before completion. Everything on the page is checked: from spacing and alignment to spelling and grammar.
Finding the Right Level
Copyediting
The work is examined at the word level to correct mechanics: spelling, grammar, punctuation, and clarity issues. Any large scale problems have already been corrected.
Developmental Editing
The work is viewed at the macro level to detect any issues with plot flow, structure, content, and pacing. This is the widest lens; small edits of word choice and grammar are saved for later.
Line Editing
The work is reviewed sentence-by-sentence to ensure clarity. Repetition, inconsistencies, and paragraph flow are scrutinized.
All potential manuscripts are reviewed to determine the type of edit. We work as a team to decide on the best plan for your writing within your time frame and budget.
Proofreading
The final review before publication that catches spelling, grammar, and formatting errors. Your work has already been copy edited.
